Abstract:
More than 3 billion people lack access to safe water for drinking. Availability and access to water services are fundamental in preserving the health and well-being of humans. The quality of water has to be of a certain degree to be considered safe for consumption.
Storage vessels tend to develop microbes over time lowering the quality of water. These microbes are capable of causing infectious diseases such as flu and measles. There is also strong evidence that they may play a role in non-infectious chronic diseases like cancer and heart disease. Water level monitoring is also of utmost importance when dealing with water storage tanks. This paper seeks to address the challenges of water quality and level monitoring by use of low-power sensors on an MKR WIFI 1010 module to obtain data on the state of water in the tank. The data is then sent to a Mobile app for observation and initiation of the required response. The prototype utilized a Message Queuing Telemetry Transport (MQTT) IoT technology.
